A little more than a year ago, most Americans would have thought the name "Huckabee" was a punch line to a joke. That's not the case any longer. Today, the former Arkansas Governor, Mike Huckabee, is one of the most popular personalities on television and radio. Huckabee, who will be the featured speaker at IFI's "Family, Faith and Freedom Banquet" [www.illinoisfamily.org/huckabee], nearly pulled off the biggest political upset in our nation's history when he seemed to come out of nowhere with his second place finish in the Republican Party's presidential primary in 2008. In a time when candidates seeking the presidency spend one hundred million dollars and more on their campaigns, Huckabee had virtually no campaign money. Despite this fact, he nearly shocked the political world. Since the end of Huckabee's remarkable showing, the soft-spoken, former Baptist minister is one of the hottest commodities going. His television show called "Huckabee" which airs on the FOX News Channel (FNC) at 7 P.M. Central on Saturdays and re-run on Sunday evenings is the most watched weekend program on cable news. The Huckabee show features lively discussions on politics and society, but viewers who tune in are treated to much more. The one hour program features human interest stories and guests--both conservative and liberal. Stars from television and the big screen have appeared on "Huckabee", the hottest musicians in the business from days gone by up to the present have added to the show's success. Huckabee tops off every evening by playing bass guitar in a group called the "Little Rockers". The band consists of members of the show and other FOX News personalities. Huckabee has also taken the world of radio by storm. His Paul Harvey style commentary, titled "The Huckabee Report" can be heard over the ABC Radio Network and can be streamed over the Internet by going to http://radio.mikehuckabee.com/. Even though Huckabee has an appeal which includes a wide political spectrum, he is a staunch conservative. Huckabee is pro-life, a strong defender of Second Amendment rights, and he believes the institution of marriage is sacred, defined as a union solely between one man and one woman. Huckabee's meteoric rise in popularity is a result of hard work. When he was governor of Arkansas, Huckabee inherited a school system which was one of the worst in the nation. Under his administration, he worked with a Democratic controlled General Assembly to improve that state's public schools significantly. During his nine year term as Governor, Huckabee helped to fix Arkansas' then-crumbling infrastructure. Most political experts consider Huckabee as one of Arkansas' most well respected governors in that state's history. Huckabee is one of the most popular personalities on the nation's speakers circuit. Those who attend IFI's "Family, Faith and Freedom Banquet" on October 6th will certainly be entertained. As far as Mike Huckabee's political future is concerned, only time will tell.
