"Banned Books" or Planned Deception?

Isn't it amazing that with all the talk about how "it takes a village to raise a child," a private organization like the American Library Association can turn a blind eye to its responsibilities to inform parents and help them protect children from obscene, age-inappropriate, illegal reading and Internet materials in a publicly subsidized library?

The ALA's annual "Banned Books Week" is purely a propaganda smoke screen to alarm the public into thinking that it is "censorship" to keep sexually-explicit reading materials away from children, thereby ensuring that children have free access to pornography, at the tax-payers expense. Don't be naive in thinking that Tom Sawyer and Harry Potter exemplify the books most challenged by concerned parents. The ALA would allow your child free access to all adult obscene materials, including child pornography, without your knowledge or consent.

The radical-left leaders at ALA have proven their dishonorable agenda by spending millions of dollars to challenge multiple cases in state and federal courts, as well as rigorously defying the standards of local communities; most recently the Children's Internet Protection Act, requiring total filtering on library computers. Showing it's own brand of bias and hypocrisy, the ALA made an attempt to ban or censor out the Boy Scouts of America, severing their ties with this honorable organization, trying to deny the BSA its Constitutional right of freedom of association. They are now contesting the USA Patriot Act, spreading the myth that the FBI is spying on the ordinary citizen. [See SafeLibraries.org].

When minors attempt to get into or rent an R-rated movie, or enter an XXX-rated club or facility, they are denied. Why? Because we have state and federal laws prohibiting minors access to obscene materials and certain forms of "free expression."

Apparently, the American Library Association believes it is above obscenity law, and audaciously insists on acting as sole arbiters of morality, decency and community standards under the righteous-sounding banner of "Intellectual Freedom."

I happen to agree with Dr. C. Everett Koop when he stated:
Violence and pornography, which is a felony against the human spirit, are the atrocities of despair. The people who commit them have an appetite for outrage. They devour what we cling to as civilized life.
The radical policies of the American Library Association are devouring our public libraries, creating a hostile environment for men, women and children. Let it be known that they have no legal, political or civil right to do so.

Other Resources:
Family Friendly Libraries -- Their goal is to keep libraries accountable to the taxpayers in the communities they serve by providing tools, information, and networking resources to citizens across the nation. They offer a link to report CIPA violations in local libraries.
