Dear IFI Readers,
You're not going to believe this one. The Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health, a leading ACLU- and Planned Parenthood-aligned group pushing liberal "comprehensive" (read: condom-training) sex-education for Illinois schoolchildren, is holding its fundraiser tonight--at the headquarters for Playboy Enterprises!Could there be more obvious evidence that liberal sex-ed advocates care more about enabling promiscuity than teaching abstinence and good moral values to our children? What is worse: the anti-abstinence lobby in Chicago just won a MAJOR VICTORY when the Chicago Public Schools Board of Education adopted a new "Comprehensive Sexual Health Education" policy that will diminish abstinence education programs in city schools. Click HERE to read about it in this very revealing Chicago Tribune story--reprinted below--dated April 27, 2006.TAKE ACTION: 1) If you are a Chicago resident, e-mail or call Chicago Public Schools CEO ARNE DUNCAN and tell him you favor reversing the "comprehensive" sex education decision. Ask for the guidelines on HOW abstinence education will be stressed in city schools. You also may want to ask Mr. Duncan why he and the Board adopted recommendations from a sex-ed advocacy group that is now holding its fundraiser at Playboy Enterprises.
ARNE DUNCAN, Chief Executive Officer Chicago Public Schools 125 South Clark Street, 5th Floor Chicago, IL 60603 Phone: 773.553.1550 Fax: 773.553.1502
2) Join our pro-abstinence-education protest in front of Playboy Headquarters this evening at 5:30 to speak out against "Playboy Sex-Ed for Chicago Schools"; the protest will be held in front of the pornographer's headquarters at 680 North Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. Background: Chicago Parents MUST Speak Up for Abstinence!
Of course, the same Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health that is holding its fundraiser at Playboy Enterprises lobbied for and celebrated the recent Chicago Public Schools shift toward "comprehensive" sex-ed. They called it a "huge victory." (You can read their e-mail "victory" message below by click HERE.)
The left-wing anti-abstinence lobby may be gloating over Chicago Public Schools' capitulation to pro-condom-training sex ed, but most Chicago parents are still unaware that the change was even made!
However, like Revolutionary War hero John Paul Jones, "we have not yet begun to fight."
Incredibly, it appears as if youth activists (organized by Planned Parenthood and the Illinois Caucus through their benignly named front group, Illinois Campaign for Responsible Sex Education) had more influence on the Chicago Board of Education than parents and professional abstinence experts like Deborah Olsen; read this quote from the Chicago Tribune:In August and December, about 50 students rallied outside the district's administration building in the Loop and eventually held discussions with school district administrators in hopes of enacting a new ["comprehensive" sex-ed] policy. Now is the time for Chicago parents to mobilize and insist that the Chicago Board of Education reverse course and return to abstinence-based sex-ed, which teaches kids to be responsible and not to be "equipped" for promiscuous, Playboy-like behaviors.
At the Illinois Caucus fundraiser this event at Playboy's headquarters, there will be a "Q & A" session with "Time Out Chicago's" sex columnist and Kinsey Institute sex educator, Debby Herbenick. Based on a quick online perusal of Herbenick's writings, she seems to be big advocate of men and women using sex toys. Wonderful: maybe we can get her into Chicago public schools to impart her vast knowledge (I'm kidding).
There will also be a VIP reception with Christie Hefner, the daughter of Playboy founder Hugh. Though the media have promoted Christie Hefner (like her father) ad nauseam, I have always thought it pathetic that a woman would lead Playboy. After all, this pornographic empire was built upon the objectification and dehumanization of women by making them mere sex objects.
Heterosexual porn surely is no friend of women. It has been a contributing factor to countless rapes and abuses against females by men who become obsessed with pornographic materials that have gotten filthier and more degrading with each passing year. We can delve into that later, but the Playboy of today is a very different animal than when it was founded in 1953. It has evolved into an organization that promotes all kinds of deviant behaviors, as we would expect, because porn never satifies.
The saying is true: evil triumphs because good men do nothing. But it also triumphs because the Left is highly organized and works behind the scenes to accomplish its ignoble goals before good people even know what's going on!This new "comprehensive" sex-ed policy reflects the values of Playboy, the ACLU, the radicals at Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health, and Planned Parenthood more than those of Chicago parents. Write Arne Duncan today or call him at 773-553-1550; and come to our protest at the Playboy Headquarters in Chicago tonight at 5:30. Let's get to work reversing this misguided policy change that will lead to Chicago students making harmful sexual choices. Our message is clear: No Playboy Sex-Ed for Chicago Public Schools!
Sincerely,
Peter LaBarbera Executive Director Illinois Family Institute info@illinoisfamily.org
Chicago Tribune story on CPS Switch to "Comprehensive" Sex-Ed:
Sex ed to cover birth control Abstinence will be city classes' focus
By David Mendell Tribune staff reporter Published April 27, 2006 [Emphasis added]
This story contains corrected material, published May 12, 2006.
Chicago Public Schools will require that students in the 6th grade and beyond take a sex education course next year that covers birth control.
Adolescent health advocates and a group of high school students who have fought for such a policy hailed Wednesday's action by the Chicago Board of Education as a major step forward in children's health.
"It's a huge victory," said Jonathan Stacks, campaign manager for the advocacy group Illinois Campaign for Responsible Sex Education [Ed. note: this is a front group for Planned Parenthood-Chicago and the Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health--Peter L.].
The new sex education course has yet to be devised, but the new policy calls for the curriculum to emphasize abstinence as the "expected norm" to prevent sexually transmitted diseases, unintended pregnancy and HIV transmission.
But it also will include instruction on contraception--a requirement that upset advocates of abstinence-only sex education teaching.
Students may opt out of the course if their parents object to having their children in the classes.
"I know there is a lot of negative talk about abstinence, but contrary to the rumors you have heard, abstinence is a very positive message," Deborah Olson (the name as published has been corrected in this text), a registered nurse and member of the Illinois Abstinence Coalition, told the board.
Olson said abstinence-only programs have been effective in preventing teen pregnancy and have resonated with many teens. She said many young people report that hearing such a message counterbalances images of sex found in the media and peer pressure to become sexually active.
Student activists said too many schools have glossed over sex education in health class or provided inaccurate information. In August and December, about 50 students rallied outside the district's administration building in the Loop and eventually held discussions with school district administrators in hopes of enacting a new policy. "We believed that the entire school system needed to make a commitment to providing lifesaving information to Chicago schools, so we took our cause to the top," said Mayadet Patittucci, a senior at Curie Metropolitan High School.[Ed. Note: Patittucci was not just any senior high schooler; she is listed as a Youth Board Member on the website for the Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health; do you see how liberal activists are using kids to radically change our schools and undermine parental rights? And shouldn't the Tribune have reported her activist connections?--Peter L.] The new program, called Family Life and Comprehensive Sexual Health Education, will be designed by a curriculum committee and provide "age-appropriate and medically accurate information concerning the emotional, psychological, physiological, hygienic and social responsibility aspects of family life."
The courses will be taught in Grades 6 through 12 and include instruction on how to prevent pregnancy through abstinence and contraception, as well as the emotional and psychological consequences of premarital sex and pregnancy. Currently sex education is inconsistently taught throughout the district, with individual schools setting the perimeters.
It also will include instruction involving financial responsibility owed to children born in and out of wedlock, laws relating to sexual relations with children under the age of 18, appropriate action in response to sexual harassment and responsible parenting.
The board adopted the policy in response to data showing that half of all city public high school students are sexually active and that 6,000 infants were born to teen parents in Chicago in 2003.
In addition, a survey commissioned by Planned Parenthood and the Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health found that teachers averaged just 12 hours of sex education per school year and about 15 percent of sex education instruction in Illinois schools did not teach the basics of conception, pregnancy and childbirth.
Board President Michael Scott said the policy was long overdue in light of the statistics. [Scott has since resigned.]
He told Olson that her point of view would be represented as administrators write the final policy and curriculum, but he added that "the policies will be realistic based on [teen] practices."
"Illinois Campaign for Responsible Sex Education" e-mail message celebrating Chicago switch to "comprehensive" sex-ed
NOTE: This e-mail message was sent out on April 27th. According to the e-mail, the "Illinois Campaign for Responsible Sex Education" is a "joint project of the Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health and Planned Parenthood/Chicago area."]
Chicago Public schools are now required to teach comprehensive, age appropriate sex education!
The Board of Education passed the Family Life and Comprehensive Sexual Health Education policy this week, with no objections. The new policy will give young people the information, skills, and encouragement they need to be responsible and will ultimately help to prevent unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.
The new policy is the result of an incredible and inspiring youth-led effort. A task force from Chicago Public schools worked in partnership with youth leaders affiliated with the Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health. The students had been working in a number of Chicago schools to improve sex education curriculum with great success, and believed that the entire school system needed to make a commitment to providing life-saving information to students.
The students organized a series of rallies which led to talks with Chicago Public Schools' CEO, Arne Duncan. The discussions convinced Duncan to convene a task force of CPS administrators who invited these youth leaders to join them in shaping a new policy.
We hope that you will celebrate this incredible victory by telling your friends about the Illinois Campaign for Responsible Sex Education.
