This is a big week in Illinois for those promoting homosexuality to young people: yesterday, many Illinois students were engaged in a pro-"gay" propaganda exercise called the "Day of Silence," in which students (and some teachers!) go silent all day in school in solidarity with suffering homosexuals the world over.
And beginning today, students at Wheaton College will be engaged in "dialogue" with traveling activists from a radical homosexual group called Soulforce--a conversation forced by Soulforce's nationwide protest against Christian Colleges that "discriminate" against "gays and lesbians" (read: they believe the Bible that same-sex sexual behavior is sinful; more on Soulforce tomorrow).
Even though homosexuality is just one of several sexual sins, it now gets special attention and is even celebrated by many liberals. Sadly, America is now reaping the whirlwind of decades of homosexual activism, which has converted a taboo and highly destructive behavior into a minority group demanding "rights."
One of the reasons that Illinois Family Institute so strongly opposes the new pro-homosexual "sexual orientation" state law and legal "gay marriage" is that both will make it easier to promote homosexual behavior as normal and acceptable to children--especially in our schools. (This is already happening in Massachusetts.) We issue the warnings, and people are shocked, but the reality is that today's youth are already awash in pro-homosexual propaganda--producing a generation that is the most homosexual-friendly ever.
I have always marvelled at the chutzpah of well-funded homosexual groups like PFLAG (Parents, Friends and Families of Lesbians and Gays) and GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network) that market their radical "gay youth" agenda in the name of "safety" for kids. Exploiting the occasional and tragic mistreatment of schoolchildren who identify as "gay," they espouse pro-"gay" programs and policies that put many more children at risk by making it easier for young people to embrace homosexuality as an identity and lifestyle.
Did you know that GLSEN promotes "Gay-Straight Alliance" clubs (pro-homosexual clubs) in middle schools across the USA? This is a highly dangerous development for youth who may be confused about their gender or sexuality.
No responsible group can promote homosexuality in the name of health or safety. The fact is, homosexuality is an extremely high-risk lifestyle, especially for males, because it is unnatural. We would expect immoral behavior to be unhealthy, and it is. Human physiology simply is not made for homosexual sex.
My friend Dr. John Diggs of Massachusetts puts it this way: it's almost as if male-on-male sodomy was created to spread disease. In his excellent paper, "The "Health Risks of Gay Sex," Dr. Diggs writes, "The list of diseases found with extraordinary frequency among male homosexual practitioners as a result of anal intercourse is alarming:Anal Cancer
Chlamydia trachomatis
Cryptosporidium
Giardia lamblia
Herpes simplex virus
Human immunodeficiency virus
Human papilloma virus
Isospora belli
Microsporidia
Gonorrhea
Viral hepatitis types B & C
Syphilis Dr. Diggs writes that "Sexual transmission of some of these diseases is so rare in the exclusively heterosexual population as to be virtually unknown. Others, while found among heterosexual and homosexual practitioners, are clearly predominated by those involved in homosexual activity. Syphilis, for example is found among heterosexual and homosexual practitioners. But in 1999, King County, Washington (Seattle), reported that 85 percent of syphilis cases were among self-identified homosexual practitioners. And as noted above, syphilis among homosexual men is now at epidemic levels in San Francisco."
Homosexuals' own words show dangers
Consider these questions, asked by homosexual men, that appeared on a popular "gay health" website (fully accessible to children on the Web) founded by a homosexual doctor [WARNING: OFFENSIVE MATERIAL--NOT APPROPRIATE FOR CHILDREN]:

DO I HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT ANAL CANCER?

WHAT IS THE HORRIBLE PAIN IN MY RECTUM?
DID ANAL SEX CAUSE ULCERATIVE PROCTITIS?
You get the idea.... Remember, these headlines were not concocted by Peter LaBarbera or Dr. James Dobson or Family Research Council but are reproduced verbatim from a very pro-homosexual website. They reflect the pain and health concerns of practicing "gay" men.Do you think that young teenage boys--and even pre-teens!--who are being persuaded by do-gooder (and perhaps well-intentioned) school counselors and pro-homosexual teachers that they might be "gay" are being told how dangerous this lifestyle is? Not a chance. In fact, most teachers and adult school administrators are ignorant of these risks because it is oh-so politically incorrect to discuss the tremendous downsides of homosexuality.
ADF's "Day of Truth"
The good news is that there is now a serious national counter-project to the pro-homosexual "Day of Silence." It is called, appropriately, the "Day of Truth," and it is sponsored by the Alliance Defense Fund, which defends Christians' freedoms across America.
Over 1,700 students across the nation, including in Deerfield High School in Deerfield, Illinois, are participating in ADF's "Day of Truth." Deerfield HS and some other Illinois schools are doing it today, but most participating schools nationwide are doing it on Thursday, April 27th, the day after the national GLSEN "Day of Silence."
Because IFI has been concentrating mostly on the Protect Marriage Referendum, we have not devoted the attention we would have liked to "Day of Truth" and the ongoing "gay school" agenda. (See my article last year on the Chicago "Night of Noise" that followed the "Day of Silence.") But the "Day of Truth website" is loaded with useful information, including a (PDF) paper, "The Ten Big Myths of Homosexual Behavior," authored by my friend, Linda Harvey of Mission America (she's a pro-family hero, by the way; I urge you to sign up for her excellent e-mails).
Congratulations to Alan Sears and the terrific people at ADF and "Day of Truth" for providing students with a way to respond to the insidious pro-homosexual propaganda at their school.

IMPORTANT NEWS!! Protect Marriage Illinois Petition Deadline Extended until April 30th.
At the request of a number of churches who still want to participate in the Protect Marriage Illinois (PMI) petition drive, the internal deadline for this project has now been extended to April 30th (please get your signatures in the mail by that date). More than 1,800 churches have already held petition drives, and dozens more will complete their petition drives over the next two weekends.
The grassroots response has been overwhelming. More than 45,000 volunteers have or are circulating the petition, and this past Friday we broke 11,000 signatures for one day. We are knocking on the door of our goal.
This is great news!! However, in these final days I'd like to ask you to do one or more of the following:
ACTION:If you have any petitions on hand, even a single signature on a sheet, get them notarized and mail them immediately to:Protect Marriage Illinois, P.O. Box 419, Wheaton, Illinois 60189
You can mail petitions as late as April 30th but please get yours in today!
If you have not done so, print, sign, notarize and mail the official Protect Marriage Illinois petition found HERE. Keep circulating petitions at your church, school, neighborhood, etc. Then get your petitions notarized and in the mail by April 30th!
Forward this e-mail to friends or family the petition, and attach a link to ProtectMarriageIllinois.org so that they can easily print out a petition, sign it, notarize it and mail it back to PMI. (Download the petition HERE.
Ask your pastor to have your church distribute petitions during church services in these last two weeks. Every signature counts and many people have not signed for various reasons! Church petition drive resources can be found HERE.
