Religious Left Plans to Crash IFI's 'Love & Truth' Conference against 'Gay Games'
 | False 'Christian' Love. Apparently the Chicago Coalition of Welcoming Churches (logo above) is welcoming to everybody except Christians who believe the Bible's standard on right and wrong. Pro-homosexual activists have even sought to pressure the Congress Plaza Hotel to cancel IFI's reservation.
| | | Too Much Tolerance? Men clad in a towel stand atop the Chicago Gay Pride Parade float for Steamworks, a sex club in Boystown where men go for anonymous encounters with other men. (For more pride parade photos, click HERE.) IFI is leading a peaceful vigil outside Steamworks (which the Daily Herald benignly labeled a "gym and social club"!) on Saturday, July 22nd. Meanwhile, a pro-gay religious coalition will be on hand--to protest IFI, not the perversion center. |
I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.--Jesus Christ, Gospel of Luke (15:7)
Dear IFI Readers,
It's not funny anymore how 'tolerance' is a one-way street for the Left. Below is our news release yesterday about how pro-homosexual religious leftists are planning to disrupt IFI's "Love & Truth" press conference today (Saturday at 3:00) against the "Gay Games." Pro-homosexual activists have even tried to pressure the Congress Plaza Hotel (Phone: 312-212-8192; Fax: 312-427-2919) to cancel IFI's reservation.
Please read this excerpt from the Chicago Coalition of Welcoming Churches' e-alert:Respond to Anti-Gay 'Christian' Gay Games Protests Chicago Coalition of Welcoming Churches invites all to help respond to the Illinois Family Institute's protests during the Gay Games. The Illinois Family Institute, 'Christian'-based anti-gay organization, has announced a press conference and general protest during the Gay Games in Chicago. In response to these ex-gay and other anti-gay efforts, we will be exhibiting our banners, advertising our churches, and passing out our 'God Loves Us ALL" buttons at the following events. Saturday, July 15 @ 3:00pm at Congress Hotel (520 S. Michigan Ave.)[SUITE 1001] Saturday, July 22 @ 5:30pm at Steamworks [a homosexual sex club] (3246 N. Halsted) We as Christians need to show the rest of the Gay community that we have a message, too!! ... Note how this leftist religious coalition puts quote marks around "Christian" for IFI, even as they make plans to defend the indefensible: a homosexual bathhouse where men go for anonymous, sodomitic encounters with other men. (Why is this allowed in Chicago? It can't be legal.)
Since when do churches defend perversion centers? And how loving is that for homosexuality-practicing men trapped in sexually addictive behavior that is going to cut their life short? About as compassionate as killing an innocent, unborn child in the name of "choice"....Wouldn't Jesus Christ be outside that gay sex club offering forgiveness to these men and a way out of that lifesyle, with the loving admonishment to "go and sin no more" (John 8:11)? Homosexual activists and their allies in the social Left have realized that it's politically stupid to condemn the Christian Church in America--religion is way too popular. So they have set about instead to coopt the Church and the Gospel by trying to make every evil cause "Christian" (this is where those quote marks really belong!)--euphemistically exploiting words like tolerance, equality, diversity, reproductive freedom, etc.
This way the secular media--famously out of touch when it comes to covering people of faith--can say that "some Christians" oppose homosexuality, while "other Christians" favor "same-sex relationships." And "some Christians" oppose abortion while others "affirm a woman's right to choose," etc.
We must be vigilant and not allow morality to be redefined by a counterfeit 'church' that rejects and undermines the Word of God and its timeless standard of right and wrong.
Please come out to hear Robert Gagnon, the world's leading authority on the Bible and homosexuality, on Sunday and Monday, as well as our other excellent "Love & Truth speakers. Click HERE for more information, or call IFI at 630-790-8370.
And please pray for us today, and for this entire week-long effort--that people's lives would be changed. God bless,
Illinois Family Institute
P.S. Thanks to the many people who have given online (and through regular mail) to help IFI continue its vital work. You are the ones who make our ministry possible, and we are blessed to stand up for truth and marriage on your behalf.
IFI Urges Religious Left Activists Not to Disrupt 'Love & Truth' Press Conference Saturday Opposing 'Gay Games'
July 14, 2006, Contact: IFI: 630-790-8370
CHICAGO--Peter LaBarbera, Executive Director of the Illinois Family Institute, which launches its week-long "Love and Truth" campaign tomorrow (Saturday) in response to the "Gay Games" (July 15-22), warned that a "religious left" group may try to disrupt IFI's opening press conference.
IFI's news conference, which will be limited to reporters, begins Saturday at 3:00 PM in the Congress Plaza Hotel in Chicago, 520 S. Michigan Ave. [SUITE 1001]
A religious left coalition called the 'Chicago Coalition of Welcoming Churches' is urging its followers to crash IFI's press event, saying it "will be exhibiting our banners, advertising our churches, and passing out our 'God Loves Us ALL" buttons." The pro-homosexual Coalition also plans to counter IFI's peaceful picket July 22 in front of Steamworks, a gay sex club.
"From the beginning, we have said that our speaking events are open to anyone with an open mind to hear," said LaBarbera responding to the Chicago Coalition e-mail. "We want gays and lesbians to come and listen, but we will not allow our free speech rights to be denied, especially in the guise of tolerance."
The following will be speaking at the "Love & Truth" news conference Saturday:Linda Jernigan, former lesbian, www.RescuingHomosexuals.org; Greg Quinlan, ex-gay man who is a former homosexual activist; Pastor Michael Allen, Uptown Baptist Church, Chicago, who is coordinating the "Gay Games" Gospel outreach; Janice Couture, mother of a lesbian who opposes the pro-gay group PFLAG; Stephanie Raquel, Concerned Women for America of Illinois; Elder Johnny Tyler, African American Family Association; Sandy Rios, Culture Campaign; A full list of "Love and Truth" events is available on IFI's website. Meanwhile, LaBarbera took issue with a Daily Herald news story today describing the Steamworks bathhouse as a "gay-friendly gym and social club."
"Gyms promote health; 'gay' sex clubs spread disease," he said. "I don't know many gyms or social clubs that require you to wear only a towel, and that sell private rooms for sexual 'play.'" IFI's Steamworks vigil begins Saturday, July 22nd at 5:30 PM, at 3246 Halsted St. in Chicago's Boystown neighborhood. Two former homosexuals and a medical doctor will be available to the media to comment on why sex clubs like Steamworks should be shut down.
Help IFI Stop the ACLU and Pro-Homosexual Left from Sinking Our Marriage Referendum
As you read this, activists affiliated with the ACLU, Gay Liberation Network, NOW and People for the American Way are working overtime to block our Marriage Protection Referendum from getting on the ballot in November. Please help IFI make a legal defense of this critical grassroots initiative!
Our legal defense will cost tens of thousands of dollars, but it is necessary to help stop the highly-organized and well-financed "Fair Illinois" coalition that is desperate to stop Illinois voters from having the opportunity to vote "YES" for the Referendum!
We need and greatly appreciate your financial help. Some can give $1,000, others $500, $100 or even just $25 or $10. We appreciate anything you can do to help defend marriage in Illinois!
If you believe in keeping marriage from being radically redefined by the ACLU and its pro-homosexual allies, please send your most generous contribution to Illinois Family Institute today. We are supported by voluntary donations from individuals like you across the state of Illinois. Donations to IFI are tax deductible.
