IFI E-Alert: Federal Hate Crimes Legislation is Back!
4/23/2009 11:27:00 AM
By David E. Smith, Executive Director -Illinois Family Institute
Federal Issue

Openly homosexual U.S. Representative Barney Frank (D-MA) has again introduced his Hate Crimes Bill, H.R.1913. Co-sponsors of this anti-family bill include Illinois' own U.S. Representives Mark Kirk (R-Winnetka) and Judy Biggert (R-Hinsdale).

Hate crime laws are actually "thought crime" laws that violate the right to freedom of speech, of religion and of conscience. Such laws subject individuals to scrutiny of their beliefs rather than focusing on a person's criminal actions.

Take ACTION: CLICK HERE to send an email or fax to your Congressman. Ask him/her to vote AGAINST H.R.1913.

The bill is not about stopping crime, but about giving sexual preference the same legal status as race and prosecuting two identical crimes differently because of what is perceived to be in the perpetrator's mind.

This legislation is just a stepping stone to regulate the speech of people who support family values, as in the case of the Philadelphia 11, a group of people holding signs about freedom from homosexuality at a gay pride event in Philadelphia who were arrested and charged with hate crimes, even though no crime was committed.

IFI E-Byte: Abortion's Death Toll
1/13/2006 11:59:00 AM
By David E. Smith, IFI Senior Policy Analyst

Every January since 1973, pro-life citizens set aside time to mourn, reflect and pray about the tragic Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision (January 22, 1973), which--with its companion case, Doe v. Bolton--imposed abortion-on-demand on every state in the nation. Sanctity of Human Life Week will be observed this year between January 15-22.

As we approach the 33rd Anniversary of Roe v. Wade, we thought it would be appropriate to review the high costs of legalized abortion. The following are the facts surrounding a "Women's Right to Abortion."

Can you think of any other American "right" that requires the murder of another innocent life?

IFI E-Byte: Marriage Benefits
10/22/2005 8:00:00 AM
By Illinois Family Institute

The benefits of marriage between a man and a woman, and the devastating effects of divorce, continue to be proven by new research.

A study from the University of Chicago, funded by the National Institute on Aging, concluded that more time spent in a divorced condition led to a higher likelihood of heart or lung disease, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke and difficulty with mobility.

IFI E-Byte: The ABC Link

By Jeanette Joyce, R.T. (R)(M)

The American Cancer Society estimates that 269,730 female breast cancers, invasive and in situ, will be diagnosed in 2005. They also estimate that 40,410 women will lose their lives to the disease this year. The lifetime incidence ratio is now at 1 in 7 or 14.3% of American women.

As millions of women's voices echo, "What is causing all this breast cancer?" major medical organizations turn a deaf ear. They continue to reiterate that there are several known risk factors for the development of breast cancer, however they refuse to acknowledge one proven link, a history of abortion. Fifty years of research has demonstrated that abortion significantly increases the risk of breast cancer.

IFI E-Byte: Good News: ExxonMobil Refuses to Give in to Homosexual Pressure
6/14/2005 7:43:00 AM
By David E. Smith, IFI Senior Policy Anaylst

ExxonMobil is the only Fortune 50 company that has refused to give into the PC and harmful policy of "domestic partner" benefits.

In response, the homosexual lobby group Human Rights Campaign has waged a war against ExxonMobil, attempting to add 'sexual orientation' to the company's non-discrimination policies at the annual shareholders meetings. We must come to ExxonMobil's aid. You can start by buying their gas during your summer trips.

IFI E-Byte: Pornography Linked to Sex Crimes

Can a man take fire to his bosom, And his clothes not be burned? ~Proverbs 6:27

Did you know that May is "Victims of Pornography Month"? There is a direct correlation between pornography and sex crimes: "I have been treating sexual violence victims and perpetrators for 13 years. I have not treated a single case of sexual violence that did not involve pornography," says one expert in the field.

IFI E-Byte: Kraft Foods, Harris Bank Sponsor Chicago "Gay Games"
5/11/2005 11:19:00 AM
By Peter LaBarbera, Executive Director and David E. Smith, Senior Policy Anaylst

Illinois Family Institute debuts our "IFI E-Byte" publication, providing quick-read educational tidbits for busy people like you:

American Family Association is reporting that Illinois-based Kraft Foods--makers of popular products like Macaroni & Cheese Dinner, Oreo Cookies, Maxwell House Coffee, and Ritz Crackers--has signed on as a sponsor of "Gay Games VII,", a sporting event drawing homosexuals, bisexuals and transsexuals from all over the world, to be held July 2006 in Chicago. Harris Bank and Buca di Beppo Restaurants are also among the sponsors.

By allowing their corporate logos to be used to promote "Gay Games VII," Kraft, Harris Bank and other corporations are celebrating wrong and destructive behaviors, and showing their disdain for the majority of Americans who favor traditional morality and marriage.
