 | The need for Internet Filtering - Support of HB 2458
3/4/2005 5:20:00 PM By David E. Smith, IFI Senior Policy Analyst
The benefits of the Internet are far too numerous and obvious to state in this paper. For public libraries, the Internet is perhaps the best research tool ever available. The Internet, however, is also responsible for the proliferation of adult and child pornography. Illegal material that used to be unavailable to average citizens and children is now largely unavoidable. Pornography is now readily accessible to anyone using unfiltered Internet computers, even children in many neighborhood libraries. This means that an 8 year-old could potentially access pornography and other illegal sites. Read more...

 | Broadcast Indecency: What You Can Do
2/3/2005 8:03:00 PM By David E. Smith, IFI Senior Policy Analyst
Anyone who spends even a little time observing prime-time television or listening to shock-radio can tell you that indecency is plentiful. So why isn't the FCC doing something about it? The answer may surprise you: The FCC does not monitor broadcasts of any kind. Instead, the FCC relies on documented complaints filed by citizens. So public action - or in this case - public inaction - is a significant contributing factor to the rising levels of indecency.

A Case Against Gay Marriage
1/26/2005 12:51:00 PM By Mark B. Blocher, President
-Christian Worldview Concepts
A large majority of Americans are opposed to gay marriage, but they often do not have the vocabulary to articulate reasons for their opposition. This white paper attempts to state the principal reasons to oppose gay marriage. The author's hope is that pastors will use this material as talking/teaching points with their congregations.
Imagine thirty years ago a pastor standing in his pulpit on Sunday morning, predicting that in 2004 the President of the United States would have to propose passage of a constitutional amendment to define marriage as a union between one man and one woman. Most, if not all, of his congregation would have thought he was nuts. Yet, on February 25, 2004, President George W. Bush did exactly that - he endorsed the passage of a constitutional amendment to define marriage as between a man and a woman. Prior to this, 38 states had taken legislative action to pass Defense of Marriage legislation to protect heterosexual marriage.

"Gay Rights" Talking Points - SB 3186
1/17/2005 10:07:00 PM By Rev. Bob Vanden Bosch, Concerned Christian Americans - Ralph Rivera, Family Pac - David Smith, IFI
What does SB 3186 actually allow in adding "sexual orientation" to the Human Rights Act?
DEFINITION of "sexual orientation" in SB 3186:
'Sexual orientation' means actual or perceived heterosexuality, homosexuality, bisexuality, or gender-related identity, whether or not traditionally associated with the person's designated sex at birth. 'Sexual orientation' does not mean a physical or sexual attraction to a minor by an adult. The issue of "gender-related self-identity, appearance, or expression, whether or not traditionally associated with the person's designated sex at birth" makes this legislation...

Defending Marriage: Why we can't settle for Civil Unions
1/17/2005 1:21:00 PM By David E. Smith and Peter LaBarbera
Across America, in both the red and the blue states, there has been a strong reaction to the Massachusetts Supreme Court's bizarre declaration that homosexual "marriage" is somehow a civil right. In response, ballot initiatives in several states, designed to codify and protect marriage as between one man and one woman, are expected to pass by large margins. One such initiative in Louisiana recently passed by 78 percent.
While the momentum to safeguard marriage is encouraging, some equally dangerous alternatives are being floated by secular conservatives and naïve pro-family leaders and legislators. The "feel good" compromise they are offering is different from marriage only by name. Make no mistake, "civil unions" or "domestic partnerships" will destroy our culture, faith, values and traditions just as quickly as giving up marriage will. We cannot, should not, and will not settle for these alternatives. If homosexual relationships acquire marital-type status in the law, several things will occur:
