IFI E-Alert: Tell Allstate that Anti-Christian Discrimination Is Wrong
7/8/2005 11:40:00 AM By Peter LaBarbera, Executive Director
 | J. Matt Barber--fired for his faith? | | | Allstate Insurance entry in recent Chicago "gay pride" parade. The company is strongly pro-homosexual. |
Allstate Insurance, based in Northbrook, fired Christian conservative J. Matt Barber--"because an outside organization had complained about an article he had written on his own time," according to the State of Illinois. Barber's article (click HERE to read it) was critical of homosexual "marriage."
Allstate denies that was the reason for Barber's termination, but it did not contest an Illinois Department of Employment Security finding that Barber was eligible for unemployment benefits due to the unfair circumstances of his firing. The case is now the subject of a federal lawsuit by Barber.
In today's politically correct corporate world, a person is more likely to be fired or disciplined for expressing opposition to the homosexual agenda than for "being gay." Christians and traditional morality advocates must stand against the corporate promotion of homosexual activism and the workplace persecution that follows it because our freedom to speak out in the public square is in jeopardy.
TAKE ACTION:1) Read about J. Matt Barber's case and call Allstate Chairman Edward Liddy today at 800-574-3553 to express your concern over his firing. You likely will be connected to his executive assistant, Christine Weller. E-mail Mr. Liddy at eliddy@allstate.com; 2) Ask Allstate to reinstate Barber, if indeed he was not fired for expressing his moral beliefs--or to take some corrective action to show that Allstate is not hostile to traditional Christian and moral beliefs such as the sanctity of marriage. 3) Kindly and respectfully express your strong opposition to Allstate's promotion of homosexuality--including a $10,000 grant to the "gay" media group GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Discrimination, which is stridently anti-traditional Christian. 4) If you are an Allstate customer, get your agent involved by asking him to investigate this situation and help make it right. Tell them you will switch insurance companies unless Allstate stops supporting radical homosexual political groups. 5) IMPORTANT: Call or e-mail IFI to tell us about "diversity" policies at YOUR workplace that undermine your Christian or moral beliefs--e.g., corporate diversity "awareness" sessions that push one side of the "gay rights" debate. Background: from WorldNetDaily and AFA Click HERE to read a WorldNetDaily.com article about the Barber case. Also, the following online Alert by our friend Don Wildmon of American Family Association about J. Matt Barber's case from will help you assess the situation:
NOTE: Allstate denies the AFA report, but is unwilling to discuss the reasons for Barber's firing due to the pending lawsuit. This, of course, makes it difficult to get the whole story, but the circumstances surrounding Barber's termination raise red flags for people of faith, given the widespread liberal intolerance in the culture.
American Family Association's report: Here Are The Facts On The Allstate/Matt Barber Situation By Don Wildmon, AFA
Earlier I wrote concerning Allstate's firing of Matt Barber because he expressed his Christian beliefs concerning homosexuality. Some of our supporters have been told that there is no truth to what we wrote earlier. Below are the facts:
The State of Illinois (Department of Employment Security) conducted a thorough investigation into Allstate's actions and ruled, without equivocation, in favor of Mr. Barber. The investigation determined: "The claimant (Mr. Barber) was discharged from Allstate Insurance Company because an outside organization had complained about an article he had written while on his own time."
The State's investigation further concluded that Allstate intentionally chose to terminate Barber's employment for writing the article despite the fact that he engaged in no misconduct whatsoever: "The term misconduct means the deliberate and willful violation of a reasonable rule or policy of the employer...In this case, the claimant's action which resulted in his discharge was not deliberate and willful." This determination, issued March 8, 2005, was not appealed by Allstate. To see the official document (you must be able to read PDF documents), click HERE.
On May 26, 2005, Attorney David Gibbs III of the Christian Law Association filed suit in federal court against Allstate Insurance Company on behalf of Mr. Barber. He had been employed as a manager in the corporate security division at the company's Chicago area headquarters. The case, No. 05-cv-03152, has been assigned to Judge Amy St. Eve, and an initial case status hearing is scheduled for July 20, 2005.
The firing of Mr. Barber is in keeping with Allstate's promotion of the homosexual agenda including homosexual "marriage." A few examples:* Gave $10,000 to the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), a homosexual organization which promotes homosexual "marriage." -- Click HERE * Supports homosexual websites with advertising dollars. -- Click HERE * [Promotes homosexuality and gender confusion to young people:] Gave $5,000 to the Indiana University Office of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Student Support Services. Click HERE * Gave $15,000 to the Gay & Lesbian Center in Los Angeles.-- Click HERE Most Allstate agents are well-respected persons in their community. Some of them probably had no knowledge of Allstate's promotion of the homosexual agenda. Now that they do, they should insist that Allstate stop promoting the homosexual agenda, including homosexual "marriage."
Please contact your Allstate agent and ask him or her to contact Allstate and ask Allstate to stop supporting homosexual advocacy groups. You can find a listing of Allstate agents in your area by clicking HERE.
If you haven't done so, please take action by sending an e-mail to Allstate Chairman Edward M. Liddy to register your complaint and demand a public apology and reinstatement for Mr. Barber with back pay. You should also ask him to stop supporting homosexual organizations.
Click HERE [for an AFA online form letter] to e-mail Allstate Chairman Liddy now!
Sincerely,
Don
