Please call both your state Representative and state Senator today and tomorrow and urge them to oppose any "gay rights" ("sexual orientation") legislation put before them.
Illinois Family Institute has received word of some late-inning shenanigans in Springfield on the homosexual issue. Please call both your state Representative and state Senator today and tomorrow and urge them to oppose any "gay rights" ("sexual orientation") legislation put before them.
Call the Capitol switchboard in Springfield at 217-782-2099 and ask to be connected to both your state representative and senator. If you don't know who they are, go to: www.elections.state.il.us/DLS/Pages/DLSAddressCrit.asp. Or call IFI at 630-790-8370 (1-800-FAMILY-1) and we will help you find them.
►Background
IFI has learned that Rick Garcia, Illinois' leading homosexual activist, is combing the halls in Springfield looking for a legislative vehicle to which to attach a version of SB 101, the homosexual/transgender (cross-dresser) bill that has previously stalled in the Senate. Garcia is a self-described Catholic who is so opposed to Church teachings on homosexuality that he compares foes of "gay marriage" to ugly racists.
So you can bet that the legislators are getting a pretty biased view about the impact of "sexual orientation" laws from Mr. Garcia. That's why they need to hear from you!
Truth is, adding "sexual orientation" to Illinois' human rights act (as SB 101 does) would put the teeth of government behind the misguided notion that changeable sexual behavior is a "civil right." That means opponents of homosexuality would be viewed like racists in the eyes of the law. We just had an election in which "values voters" made themselves heard by the tens of millions: so why are liberal legislators even considering a bill, a day before that end of the Veto Session, equating aberrant and risky sexual conduct with civil rights?
Consider the effect of similar "sexual orientation" (homosexuality) laws in other states and countries:
"Sexual orientation laws" become the legal groundwork for homosexual "marriage" claims. This happened in Massachusetts;
"Sexual orientation" laws will make it easier to promote homosexuality and gender confusion in schools (all in the name of "nondiscrimination");
"Sexual orientation" laws would encroach on the freedom of small businessmen to live by their own moral creed.
"Sexual orientation" laws-especially those with weak or nonexistent religious exemptions like SB 101-will be used against churches and faith-based groups like the Boy Scouts, punishing them for their moral beliefs against homosexuality. Did you know that the long legal case against the Boy Scouts, culminating in a decision by the Supreme Court upholding their right to disqualify "gay" Scoutmasters, began with the Scouts being targeted for "violating" New Jersey's "sexual orientation" law?
This is the beginning of a slippery slope: homosexual activists will next seek to build upon an SB 101-type law to punish businesses that don't provide homosexual benefits by banning them from receiving state contracts.
We don't yet know the number of the SB 101-type bill that might emerge, so the best way to communicate with your representatives is to clearly but firmly say two things:
1) You do not want a pro-homosexual bill passed in any form; and
2) you will be watching this issue carefully and reporting to others in your district how they vote on this issue.
Please remember to call both your state representative and senator.
Thanks for staying vigilant. As great statesmen have said in the past, that is the price of our God-given liberty.
